I was surprised that there was little reference made to specific areas of UC application expertise that those consultants should be becoming proficient at including: - Mobility and multimodal devices - CEBP - Presence-based telephony and messaging That is in addition to more traditional network infrastructure issues and "VoIP." It is because we don't start talking at that level that everyone is confused and doesn't get the attention of business management. They need to put some "application meat on the bones of wired and wireless IP networks!"

May not be surprising that these topics are not mentioned in Mick Sawka's podcast, since the podcast makes it clear that the consultants Mick works with are still focused on converged networks and how Voice fits into that; UC is still a question mark for them. Also, the vendors are focused on facilitating consultant recommendations for their core revenue products. Seems to me that most consultants develop their value by synthesizing insights and new tools from many sources -- some vendors, industry assets such as UCStrategies.com, press, analysts, and associations such as the Society of Telecommunications Consultants (STC) who will be offering a UC Tutorial at their Fall Conference in Reno, NV, Oct. 15-18.
