What does the Avaya acquisition of Nortel mean for the end-user community, the Nortel customer base, and the Nortel channel partners? What is the reaction of the UCStrategies UC experts to last week's roadmap announcement? What have the experts heard from their customers?

For this podcast, the UCStrategies.com expert panel includes Jim Burton, Marty Parker, Blair Pleasant, Samantha Kane, David Yedwab, Art Rosenberg, and Michael Finneran.

This has been enjoyable listening from the perspective that the group of UC experts has quite diverse opinions on: 1. Whether Avaya'a strategy is the right one, no matter how well it was articulated? 2. The reactions of the Nortel Customers. If these experts have diverging opinions, it's very likely that the Customers will sense uncertainty, which means they won't be laying wads of cash down anytime soon for upgrades. 3. The Channel Partner reaction. I have heard discussions, prior to Jan 19th, about some of the big national/international players possibly switching horses entirely. If one or two of them switch it is bound to up the level of sector uncertainty, again keeping cash in Customers' pockets. Let's face it, there is plenty of inertia out there right now, as the industry serves up large dollops of fear and uncertainty, and as the Avaya competitors sharpen their pencils to take their fair share of the Nortel base away. At VoiceBridge, we are betting that the Nortel Customer base will sit tight for a long time to come, and invest in selective UC components such as Voice Message Management, without buying "bolt-on" hardware if they don't have to. And that the industry will go through an even more turbulent phase before further consolidation down the road.
