Market analyst names Acme Packet “the runaway SBC market leader” in 2009

BURLINGTON, MA, APRIL 27, 2010 — Acme Packet® (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session border control solutions, today announced that leading research firms, Infonetics Research, Dell’Oro Group and Current Analysis reported that Acme Packet continued to lead the session border controller (SBC) market in 2009. With a consensus market share greater than 50%, Acme Packet remains the undisputed leader in the SBC market it invented. While the overall market for SBCs continued to increase, both Infonetics and Dell’Oro Group reported that Acme Packet improved on its longstanding leadership position in 2009 with four times more market share than its nearest competitor.

In its March 2010 report, Service Provider VoIP Equipment and Subscribers – Quarterly Worldwide and Regional Market Share and Forecasts 4Q2009, Infonetics reported that Acme Packet captured 52% of the SBC market based on product revenues for fiscal year 2009,  almost four times that of any competitor. In addition, Dell’Oro Group reported in its Carrier IP Telephony report for 2009 that Acme Packet held a commanding 55% of the SBC market in the same time period. Current Analysis’ March 2010 Company Assessment gave Acme Packet a five-star rating for the 5th year in a row, naming the company as “the runaway SBC market leader,” while noting that, “with new products to address scalability and opportunities in enterprise and mobile environments, Acme Packet looks to continue its dominance in the SBC market in the coming year.”

“The market for SBCs has progressed from early stage deployments characterized by smaller contracts to larger scale deployments as a growing number of providers have made significant progress in converting to IP-based infrastructure and expanded their IP-to-IP borders with services like residential VoIP, SIP trunking, and provider-to-provider IP peering,” said Diane Myers, directing analyst of service provider VoIP and IMS at Infonetics Research. “Acme Packet remains well-positioned to take advantage of the growing service provider and enterprise SBC market that is set to exceed $2.5 billion in cumulative revenues from 2010 through 2014.”

“These latest market share numbers illustrate the critical role Acme Packet’s SBCs play in controlling the border for more than 1,000 customers across fixed and mobile service providers, enterprise and contact center market segments,” said Andy Ory, president, CEO and co-founder of Acme Packet. “Acme Packet is in an ideal position to solve the critical security, service assurance and regulatory compliance issues associated with the explosive increase in IP-to-IP borders and the volume of traffic that passes through them.”
