Recently, at InfoComm 2011 Conference and Expo, Polycom, Inc. unveiled five new solutions, designed to speed up the adoption of unified communications. These new solutions are designed to improve scalability, interoperability, ease of use, performance, and price.

Among the releases is new software for the Polycom UC Intelligent Core platform, featuring enhancements designed to provide a robust platform for scalable and reliable video services, and offers carrier-grade unified communications. Included in its features are a universal bridge that supports a broad range of devices, networks, locations, and standards; simplified administration and setup to reduce the total cost of operation; native integration with tools such as Microsoft Lync; and a level of scale, reach, access, and availability, as well as advanced firewall traversal technology, designed to ensure secure access.

There's also the Polycom OTX 100 immersive telepresence solution, which provides an immersive telepresence experience in a single aggressively-priced package. It features up to 50% less bandwidth usage than competing solutions, and is interoperable with Polycom Open Collaboration Network partner UC environments and Cisco CTS systems.

More new releases include the latest versions of the Polycom Video Content Management solutions, such as Polycom's Accordent Media Management System version 4.5 and Accordent Capture Station 5.1. These new solutions, designed to make managing and delivering high-quality video content a simple task, automate many of the steps required for creating and delivering videos, and integrate with standards-based video conferencing systems.

Finally, there's the Polycom SoundStructure VoIP Interface, which adds Polycom's SIP telephony features to the SoundStructure line of products. With this, SoundStructure's features, such as Polycom HD Voice performance and noise cancellation technology, are brought into installed VoIP environments, and its modular interface makes transitioning to VoIP simple and cost-effective.

According to UCStrategies UC Expert Dave Michels, "Polycom is making some bold and aggressive moves. The intelligent core supporting up to 75,000 devices seems ridiculous at first, but when you consider how many people now have 3 or more capable video devices, it only takes 25,000 employees to justify the capability. It also nice to see costs continue to drop, meaning the new OTX-100 will open immersive telepresence to a broader audience."
