ShoreTel 11 Makes Communications Less Complex
ShoreTel has recently released the latest version of its UC software, ShoreTel 11. The new software can help large businesses simplify system management, improve reliability, and lower communications costs, while providing workers with more choices for mobile devices. ShoreTel 11 is available as a free upgrade for all current customers with a ShoreTel support contract.
As part of the new features, the ShoreTel Communicator client (formerly known as ShoreTel Call Manager) adds, in addition to the BlackBerry, support for iPhone devices. A new web version enables users, including Mac users, to manage communications from a web browser. The new iPhone client is available through Apple's App Store as a free download.
Distributed database capabilities of ShoreTel 11 enhance the distributed architecture, while additional instances of the database can be installed at remote sites to alleviate potential bottlenecks and eliminate points of failure. It also offers extended legacy PBX integration capabilities with expanded QSIG support, in order to make it easier for customers to leverage existing investments and migrate to ShoreTel's IP-based UC capabilities.
ShoreTel has also changed the name of ShoreTel Call Manager, its desktop application, to ShoreTel Communicator. This change reflects the growth of its capabilities, extending it beyond that of regular "calls" and into the realm of unified communications.
According to UCStrategies UC Expert Dave Michels, "ShoreTel continues to defy the skeptics. Their 'simple' approach is working great, and they are stealing market share from far stronger brands. They are accomplishing growth in a stagnant economy at home, while concurrently expanding internationally. On top of all that, their customers are rabid fans. ShoreTel's deals are getting bigger and the company is busting out of its SMB image. The challenge now is maintaining momentum, particularly though a CEO change."
Blair Pleasant, Co-Founder of UCStrategies adds, “During the ShoreTel 11 product launch at ShoreTel’s Champion Partner Conference, it was clear that partners were very excited about the Communicator client’s capabilities for the iPhone and the web, enabling Apple Macintosh users and others to access ShoreTel’s capabilities from a web browser, as well as the popular iPhone. In addition, the QSIG enhancements for voice mail enables rich integration with legacy PBX or voicemail systems, enabling customers to cap off their existing systems and grow their communications system with ShoreTel equipment, providing more opportunities for customers and partners.”
