Skype Connect 1.0 Launches
Skype has officially announced the end of beta testing and official launch of Skype Connect (formerly known as Skype for SIP). Skype Connect is intended to deliver a solution connecting Skype to IP-enabled private branch exchange (PBX) or Unified Communications systems.
When used with an existing UC or PBX system, Skype Connect allows you to make worldwide outbound calls from desktop phones at Skype's standard calling rates, receive inbound calls from Skype connected users across the world by placing a "Click & Call" button on their website, receive calls from landlines or mobile phones in the corporate PBX that use Skype's separately purchased online numbers, and manage Skype calls using existing PBX or UC system features.
"With Skype Connect coming out of beta, the company has made its strongest move yet into the business market," said Jon Arnold, principal of J Arnold & Associates. "While most people will focus on the cost savings here, another important feature to consider is that Skype has added customer support to make it easier for businesses to get the most from this capability."
Skype Connect is certified to work with products from Avaya, Cisco, ShoreTel, and many other companies, and works with older TDM PBX's or Key Systems through third-party IP gateways.
